• August 18th -- "What's Sending Oklahoma Republicans on a Desperate 'Fishing Expedition' in Southeast Oklahoma? Dismal Poll Numbers in Senate District 42!"

    Posted Aug 20 at 1 PM

    Recent polling out of Senate District 42 shows Sen. Cliff Aldridge’s re-election hopes are fading fast – which might explain why State Senate Republicans are suddenly interested in playing in Southeast Oklahoma.

    “When Oklahoma State Senate Republican leadership and campaign operatives suddenly announced their interest in Josh Brecheen and Southeast Oklahoma, the question that immediately came to mind was ‘why’,” said Jody Murphy, Executive Director of the Oklahoma State Senate Democrat PAC. “And by the looks of things, the only answer we can come up with is ‘desperation.’”

    Poll numbers released today by the Oklahoma State Senate Democrat PAC from a late-May poll of likely November voters in Senate District 42 conducted by Myers Research Strategic Services indicate that two-term incumbent Sen. Cliff Aldridge’s re-election numbers are extremely weak:

    * Just 27% of voters polled would choose to re-elect Sen. Aldridge, while 33% would choose someone new;
    * Sen. Aldridge’s re-elect is even weak among voters in his base of registered Republicans – just 45% of registered Republicans say he deserves to be re-elected, while 19% say they would choose someone new;
    * For a two-term incumbent, Sen. Aldridge’s name recognition is dismal, with just 45% of likely voters able to identify him by name;
    * Finally, and most shockingly, just 26% of voters rated Aldridge favorably, while 12% gave him unfavorable personal reviews.

    With poll numbers clearly painting Sen. Aldridge as vulnerable, State Senate Republicans and their campaign operatives may be more disappointed with Sen. Cliff Aldridge than they are enamored with Josh Brecheen and his long-shot campaign.

    “If I was working with an incumbent with poll numbers as dismal as Sen. Aldridge’s, I might be interested in going on a desperate fishing expedition in Southeast Oklahoma too,” said Sen. Andrew Rice, incoming Senate Democratic leader and Chairman of the Oklahoma State Senate Democrats PAC.

  • May 10th Severe Weather

    Posted May 11 at 1 PM

    My thoughts and prayers go out to those affected by the severe weather and tornadoes that hit throughout Oklahoma yesterday. While I and my neighbors in Choctaw were dealing with baseball sized hail and damaging winds, it was especially difficult to see so much destruction, and even death, so close to home. I’m planning on getting out today to help volunteer in the recovery and cleanup efforts in our District and hope you will be able to help as well. Volunteers are needed until 5pm today and can check in at the County Barn located at 7501 S Anderson Rd., Oklahoma City.

     It was a real pleasure to go out and meet some of the voters in Senate District 42 this past Saturday. I only wish we didn't get rained out so I could have met more of you. I would like to give a special shout out to the volunteers who donated some of their precious time this past Saturday to help the campaign, you guys were great and thanks for all the hard work! I look forward to meeting more people and working with more volunteers in the Midwest City and Choctaw area in the near future.

    Thank you,

    Oklahoma AFL-CIO Gives Rare Early Endorsement to Mike Kelly for State Senate Campaign

    (TULSA) – Today, the Oklahoma American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) gave an early endorsement to Mike Kelly, candidate for State Senate 42. It is a rarity for the AFL-CIO to give a candidate an early endorsement, especially over a year away from election day. Mike Kelly, who is running against insurance agent incumbent Senator Cliff Aldridge, said, “I am extremely proud of this endorsement. For over 25 years, I have been an advocate for working families. I have fought for my co-workers at Tinker, my fellow veterans, and most importantly for my kids and grandkids to ensure that they have the quality of life that a strong middle class can provide. When elected to the legislature, I will continue my advocacy for working families and small business in Oklahoma. You cannot have one of those succeed without the other flourishing as well."

    Kelly's opponent, Sen. Cliff Aldridge, has recently come under scrutiny for his project as the co-chairman of the Task Force on the Privatization of CompSource Oklahoma. Recently, Sen. Aldridge held a hearing regarding how privatizing workers' compensation would affect insurance rates for small business. Roy Wood, state relations executive with the National Council on Compensation Insurance, testified that 'most likely they would see an increase,' to their rates.

  • The Tragic Loss of Governor Henry Bellmon

    Posted Sep 30 at 9 AM

    Today, I join mourners across Oklahoma in remembering Henry Bellmon. He served as a great leader, holding such offices as Governor, party chair, and United States Senator. In addition, he was a decorated veteran, and a loving family man. He was a great Oklahoman that worked hard to improve this state. We should all be as lucky to have lived the life Governor Bellmon led. My prayers and condolences go out to his family.

  • Privatizing Worker's Compensation

     Mike Kelly's opponent, Sen. Cliff Aldridge- (R) Midwest City, is the "co-chairman of the Task Force on the Privatization of CompSource Oklahoma." This article from the Oklahoman talks about the answer Aldridge got when he asked what effect privatizing worker's compensation would have on rates for small business, "'Most likely they would see an increase,' said Roy Wood, state relations executive with the National Council on Compensation Insurance." The Republicans want to raise the rates that small businesses pay by privatizing worker's compensation. This is not fair to the men and women in this state who work hard to own their own small business. We should encourage the growth of small business, not force them to cough up more money. They are vital to Oklahoma's economy and raising their rates would be a detriment to both the businesses and the state.
