Oklahoma AFL-CIO Gives Rare Early Endorsement to Mike Kelly for State Senate Campaign
(TULSA) – Today, the Oklahoma American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) gave an early endorsement to Mike Kelly, candidate for State Senate 42. It is a rarity for the AFL-CIO to give a candidate an early endorsement, especially over a year away from election day. Mike Kelly, who is running against insurance agent incumbent Senator Cliff Aldridge, said, “I am extremely proud of this endorsement. For over 25 years, I have been an advocate for working families. I have fought for my co-workers at Tinker, my fellow veterans, and most importantly for my kids and grandkids to ensure that they have the quality of life that a strong middle class can provide. When elected to the legislature, I will continue my advocacy for working families and small business in Oklahoma. You cannot have one of those succeed without the other flourishing as well."
Kelly's opponent, Sen. Cliff Aldridge, has recently come under scrutiny for his project as the co-chairman of the Task Force on the Privatization of CompSource Oklahoma. Recently, Sen. Aldridge held a hearing regarding how privatizing workers' compensation would affect insurance rates for small business. Roy Wood, state relations executive with the National Council on Compensation Insurance, testified that 'most likely they would see an increase,' to their rates.
